The last thing I published here was January 2019.
It was a short note about updating the WordPress theme.
Before that, I did post about the theme.
And before that, it was the first one: How This Website Came Into Existence in November 2017.
Then I stopped.
If you landed on Thoughts and thought I abandoned the place? Yep. I did.
Why?
It wasn’t a single decision. It was decisions made over multiple years. So I never came back.
This is the return post. Trying to keep it short on purpose.
What this site was in 2017
I bought the domain months before I actually used it. Then I sat on it for all that time.
I also had read Crush It. The “your name is your brand” bit really stuck with me.
So I went and installed WordPress, somewhere along the line I decided the marketplace themes were not quite right, and set out to build my own.
After about a week of on-and-off coding I had an About page, a blog, and a Contact page ready.
That felt like a launch 🚀

The reasons I wrote down back then are still on the About page.
I wanted a place to practice my writing, in general, and my grammar needed the reps.
I wanted a corner of the internet I actually owned. Views, lessons, the odd photo.
My reasoning was that social platforms come and go. A site with my name on it does not. At least not in the same way.
And my hope was (and still is) that, at some point, one person would get something useful out of a post.
I also told myself I could keep it updated if I published at least one article a month. Twelve a year doesn’t sound like “too much to ask.”
Well…
That line has not aged well.
Why it went quiet
Multiple reasons.
Work got in the way. Moving got in the way. Side projects got in the way.
But if I really nail it down to one – it would be the constant redesign loops I’ve been running ever since I started this page.
I would open the site, decide it was not ready, and start tinkering – fonts, layout, a new menu or another pass at mobile. You name it, I did it.
And I kept telling myself I would write once the site looked right.
The site never looked right for long enough.
It’s probably one of the most efficient ways I’ve found to publish absolutely nothing.
That said, I have been a little more active on X. For my standards – I write there a lot.
Guess this site went quiet because I never made that commitment to myself to write one article (minimum) a month thing.
Because the jobs changed. I moved countries a few times (currently in Singapore 🇸🇬). I focused mostly on building things for my clients, products for myself or just spinning up simple games. All while posting short updates sporadically on X.
So that’s the reason the Thoughts section has stayed at three entries. No point dressing that up much – I got busy and picky. And it ended up with me treating a personal site like a product that was never quite ready to ship (and I have a lot of that tbh).
So… Why now?
Frankly, I got tired of owning a site I would not use.
The projects page was moving a little. But the blog/thoughts was not. Which bothered me.
I’m not back because I found a content strategy. I think I’m back because “I’ll write when the site or a thought is perfect” quietly became seven years, and I would rather publish the odd imperfect post now than keep polishing an empty room.
I always thought that I wouldn’t fall into this trap but here we are.
What it is now
Okay, to get this straight – it’s not like I am relaunching a media brand.
So won’t be promising any schedules. Kind of did that in 2017 already 😅
Going forward, I think this site will be three things:
About. Who I am, in one place I control without worries about algorithms.
For example, a friend gifted me Gunpla kits and I started an MS-06S Zaku II build. Got hooked in a quiet hour… So here I am at 2 AM putting together a torso:
Projects. The things I have actually been up to and trying to figure out. They live on the projects page. That page is more frequently updated than this blog 😅
Thoughts/Writing. Occasionally.
When I have something I can say from memory, I will put it here.
If I do not, the site still has a job.
And that is it. An About page, Projects page and the odd post in Thoughts. This thing doesn’t need to be big for me to actually use. And if Thoughts page still looks thin after this, that is fine.
If you want one thing to do, start on the projects page.
The old posts will stay. They are what they are.
This one is just me writing here again.
Until next time,
Kris
